Arborist Consulting
Trees are important. We know that. You know that. And it’s likely that the city or town you live in knows that too.
As our climate is changing, trees are becoming more and more important to help regulate that change. Most of the cities in the lower mainland have regulations and bylaws in place to help protect this essential asset – our trees. The cities require certified ‘arborists’ to help homeowners, builders and developers address issues involving those bylaws.
At Huckleberry Landscape Design, we are proud to have ISA Certified Arborists on staff. The initials ISA refer to the International Society of Arboriculture, and earning their certification means our tree specialists are the best at what they do. This certification is available only to those who meet predetermined and standardized criteria for knowledge, skills, or competencies. This knowledge is learned through disciplined self-study and the experience earned by working in their field.
We are also ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualified (TRAQ). That means we’ve completed training that has expanded our knowledge of the fundamentals of tree risk assessment. By participating in this course, we’ve learned standardized, systematic processes for assessing tree risk and can offer information to tree owners that will allow them to make informed decisions that will ensure the safety of the people they love as well as their property, and which can enhance tree benefits, health, and longevity.
WHY DO I NEED AN ARBORIST?
The city of Surrey – where we are located – as well as other cities in the Lower Mainland, are all very strict about their tree regulations. If you, the homeowner, or your builder want to make changes to a property that includes trees, an arborist’s opinion is required before those alterations can be made. After all, it’s understandable that these municipalities do not want their trees to be removed without good reason.
As arborists, we are familiar with the Tree Bylaw regulations in Surrey and surrounding areas and are able to help guide the homeowner and builder through the Building application process where trees are involved. We can assess each individual situation and advise on the best course of action of what can and cannot be done with the trees on your property.
In addition, if you have a hazard tree on your property or a tree that has been damaged in a rain or wind storm, we can come to your home and provide our opinion as to the next best step to take. If that next step requires the removal of that tree, Huckleberry Landscape Design will provide you with a list of companies that can take care of the removal.
Remember, when you don’t abide by tree regulations set forth by your municipality and you damage or remove trees without permission, the city has the right to stall your project, which can become a very costly proposition. So, it’s better to take the correct route at the start and consult an arborist at the beginning of the project.
